Delete the old book cover (it will ask if you're sure-click "yes") and copy the new jpg in. Save whatever jpg you want to use as the new book cover somewhere on your computer, and rename it to match. Right click and open the file location you should find this is the only image inside a hidden folder called "bookcovers." Copy the name of that jpg. Among the search results, you should see a large (or, if your original cover image wasn't large, a not-large) jpg with the same name as that string of numbers and letters, eg "c728b9d1-e81e-4524-a03a-2da6f98c9f94_EBOK" (note that you do not want the jpgs whose names start with "thumbnail"). First, on your computer and with your Kindle plugged in, open up the Kindle files and go to "documents," then find the sdr file for the ebook you're trying to update (it will probably be in a folder named after the author). To turn on syncing, go to Settings > Device Options > Personalize Your Kindl. The newest Paperwhite also has a feature to display the cover of what you're currently reading on the lockscreen updating this cover image is a little bit trickier. If it is turned off, your books will not sync automatically. Updating the book cover in the library and file is super easy: after updating the cover and re-converting the book in Calibre, simply plug your Kindle in, do not remove the book from your device, and hit "send to device." This will not delete highlights, notes, your reading progress, etc.-it just overwrites the cover. (I use Calibre for public domain books, but you can also use it for ebooks purchased from places other than Amazon-I assume this method will still work regardless of the file source.) It has been tested on a Kindle PW2 (EU, Wi-Fi) FW 5.4.5.1, and on a Touch FW 5.3.

This app seamlessly connects to your Calibre Library and shows up as a connected device on Calibre. Personally Calibre did amazing work for me always, even if the UI was clunky.
